About us
About Mindalo
Mindalo exists to close the gap between dementia diagnosis, care and understanding across Africa. We work across the whole journey, from the first signs to living well with dementia. This matters because too many families face that journey with little help. We believe good dementia care starts with dignity.
Why we exist
Dementia is rising sharply across Africa. Yet diagnosis often comes late, carers are often left without support, and many people still misunderstand the condition. Africa’s population is ageing fast, and dementia care has not kept pace. Mindalo is here to help change that — one family, one community, one conversation at a time.
What we do
Our work follows the dementia journey in three stages. Each stage meets a different need, from getting answers, to getting support, to building understanding. Working across all three means families are not left to fall into the gaps between them. The three stages are:
-
Diagnosis
Earlier recognition
Supporting earlier recognition of dementia and better access to assessment.
Start with the signs -
Support
Families and carers
Resources and community for the people who give care every day.
Guides for carers -
Education
Public understanding
Awareness and training that reduce stigma and misinformation.
Our training
What we believe
- Dignity comes first — for the person living with dementia, and for the people caring for them.
- Clear words help — we explain things simply, without jargon.
- Communities know best — we work with families, health workers and local leaders.
- Information must be sound — our work is based on research and good practice.
Work with us
We cannot close the gap on our own. Partners help us reach more families and train more health workers. Every partner brings skills, reach or resources that we do not have alone. We would like to hear from:
- health services, clinics and hospitals
- universities and researchers
- community and faith organisations
- funders and donors
- volunteers with time or skills to share
Contact us
The best way to reach us is by email. Write to hello@mindalo.org with your question or idea. Please note that we are not an emergency service. If someone is unwell or in danger, contact your local emergency services or go to the nearest hospital.
